Three steps to your exhibition
Research
I research historical topics, families and biographies, places and buildings as well as the history of objects. These include paintings, sculptures, porcelain and silver. The focus is on the history of Western Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries.
I conduct research for you in archives, libraries and museums throughout Europe. On request, I can search internationally for key documents and images, sound and film recordings and exhibition objects for your project. You benefit from my knowledge of English and French. I also carry out fact checks for texts, documentaries and films on historical topics. My results are scientifically sound and verifiable.
Understand
Written documents, works of art and everyday objects can only be understood in their historical context: Which manufactory does the tea service come from? What does the decoration show? Is the previous owner known? On what occasions was it used? What do we learn about the previous owner's self-image and lifestyle?
I help you to trace the history of memorabilia and collection objects and decipher their meaning. I decipher old manuscripts and date photographs. I place key documents such as letters and diaries in their historical context. I present my findings in a comprehensible and understandable way.
Tell
How we tell history determines how it is remembered. That is why good knowledge communication is important to me. Based on my research findings, I develop innovative and target group-oriented content and concepts for exhibitions. I communicate sensitive topics and complex historical contexts simply and clearly.
Fees
€75 net per hour
The fee does not include incidental costs (office costs, production costs, travel costs, accommodation costs) and the applicable statutory VAT. My fees are based on the fee recommendation for freelancers drawn up by the German Association of Historians together with the German Association for Art History and the Federal Association of Freelance Cultural Scientists (BfK) in November 2022.
